Acts are also known as primary legislation.Īmending Acts made in the years 1905 to 1976 amended the citation of the principal Act to include, in addition to the year of making, the year of amendment, for example the Customs Act 1901-1925. When an Act changes, a compilation of the Act is prepared to show the Act as amended. Once an Act is formally enacted it can generally only be amended or repealed by another Act. On Royal Assent, Acts are given a year and number.
